Hello, and welcome to another edition of ‘Live-Blogging Shish on Baseball’. This Morning, it is a battle of Sox, as the white versions of Chicago take on the red versions of Boston.
White Sox took 2 out of 3 games in this series and is looking to take 3 out of 4, especially with their ace Lucas Giolito on the mound. For the Red Sox, they would like to split this series, especially since this morning’s game is Boston’s Annual Patriots Day. Normally on this Monday in April, Boston would have a morning Red Sox game and the Boston Marathon. But due to COVID-19, they are having the marathon in October. But today, the Red Sox said they could play their game on Patriots Day. As mentioned, the White Sox will start right-hander Lucas Giolito. While the Red Sox will throw Nathan Eovaldi. Giolito has a strikeout/walk (K/BB) ratio of 5.20, while throwing 4.27 pitches per plate appearance (P/PA). As for Eovaldi, his K/BB ratio of 3.50, while having 3.97 P/PA. Hello, and welcome to another edition of ‘Live-Blogging Shish on College Basketball’. Tonight, it is the 2021 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship Game, between the Baylor Bears and Gonzaga Bulldogs.
This National Championship Game pits the Big XII Conference (Baylor Bears) and the West Coast Conference. (Gonzaga Bulldogs). These two programs were supposed to play against each other on December 5th, 2020. But that game was cancelled due to COVID-19. Well now we have this matchup in the final game of the 2020-21 Season. Bears have cruised through the tournament. Their closest margin of victory was 9 points against Arkansas. This is their second national championship game appearance since 1948. On the other hand, the Zags were cruising the tournament until they met UCLA on Saturday Night. They won that game in overtime on a buzzer-beater by Jalen Suggs, after Johnny Juzang tied it with a layup. This is Gonzaga’s second national championship appearance in the last four tournaments. They would like to be the first program since 1976 Indiana Hoosiers to have a perfect season. The Bears, they are led by Jared Butler in scoring. Mark Vital leads Baylor in rebounding. And Davion Mitchell leads the Waco school in assists. For the Zags, they are led by Drew Timme in scoring and rebounding. And Jalen Suggs leads the Spokane Catholic University in assists. Bruins is the ‘Blue Blood’ of this ‘Final Four’. They have won this tournament 11 times, the most in NCAA Tournament History. But they last won the tournament in 1995. This current crop of Bruins team is known for their defense. The Bulldogs are known for their offense. And not only are they looking for their first national championship, but they are two wins away from earning the first perfect season since 1976 Indiana Hoosiers. UCLA is led by Johnny Juzang in scoring. While Jaime Jaquez, Junior leads the Bruins in rebounding. And Tyger Campbell leads the Los Angeles School in assists. In this Pac-12/Big Ten Battle, the Bruins are hoping that they can continue the Pac-12 success in this tournament. And Bill Walton’s ‘Conference of Champions’ is hoping that USC will defeat Gonzaga, for an All-Pac-12 National Semifinal on Saturday. Big Ten had a disappointing NCAA Tournament. They had 9 teams in the tournament. But Michigan is the only Big Ten Program that made it to the 2nd Weekend. But Michigan did not have any problem against Florida State. The Lopes have only played Division 1-A Basketball since 2013. And this is their first appearance to the NCAA Tournament. They are known for their commercials promoting the Phoenix University. As Andy Katz points out, Grand Canyon likes to score in the 70’s. However as Katz points out again, Hawkeyes like their games in the 70’s. But unlike the Lopes, they are led by Center Luka Garza. Garza is a finalists for the Niesmith Trophy. And has players like Joe Wieskamp and Jordan Bohannon and Connor McCaffery. Lopes are led by Asbjorn Midtgaard in scoring and rebounding. Both teams played one less game, due to COVID-19. Florida State didn’t start their tournament until last night due to Duke’s COVID-19 positive test. They defeated North Carolina to advance to ACC Championship. As for the Yellow Jackets, they played their quarterfinals and defeated Miami Hurricanes. But Virginia Cavaliers had a positive COVID-19 Test, and that is how the Yellow Jackets made it to their first ACC Championship Game since 2010. The Seminoles would like to establish themselves as the ‘New Bloods’ with a win today. Florida State won the regular season title last year and was awarded the champion due to COVID-19 outbreak, last year. ‘Ramblin’ Wreck’ is led by Moses Wright in scoring and rebounding. And Yellow Jackets are led by Jose Alvarado in assists. Seminoles are led by MJ Walker in scoring. RaiQuan Gray leads Florida State in rebounding. Finally, Scottie Barnes leads the Tallahassee University in assists. It is Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Florida State Seminoles in the 2021 ACC Championship Game, coming up shortly.
