Some Clues For Charlie Dent on Why the American Electorate is Choosing Two Tyrannies Over Centrists Cronyism
Yesterday, Former Republican Congressman Charlie Dent wrote an opinion piece on CNN, complaining about the possibility of a Trump vs. Bernie 2020 Presidential Race. He complained that both political parties are putting out fringe candidates and that the political center (He was known as a centrist by National Journal, GovTrack, and ACLU) want a candidate who wants to give stability to this country. He asked two questions, ‘Is this too much to ask? And why is our system seemingly incapable of producing this kind of alternative leadership at this moment?
Let me answer the second question first. In Post-World War II 20th Century, both parties were able to produce these candidates. Fringe candidates like Pat Buchanan only muster 0.4 % of the popular vote, back in 2000 on Trump’s platform. Conversely, George McGovern only won 17 counties in 1972 Election as an anti-war candidate, while Barack Obama became the 1st Black President of the United States on an anti-war platform. What changed? The American Electorate changed.
